We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Geotechnical Engineer / Geotechnical Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Edinburgh/Perth Scotland. Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. Amey manages a substantial portion of Transport Scotland’s assets through the trunk road Network Management Contracts. In addition to these long‑term asset management contracts, we have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, transportation and civil design projects with National Transport Agencies, Local Authorities and established contractors across the country.

Our multidisciplinary team encapsulates Highway Engineering, Bridge/Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, River & Coastal Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Traffic Engineering/Transport Planning. As an Assistant Geotechnical Engineer, you will play an important part in delivering our critical infrastructure projects. You will be involved in every stage of a project from inception to completion. You will undertake the production of technical designs and work as part of a skilled design engineering team across a diverse portfolio of projects. Our Assistant Geotechnical Engineer / Geotechnical Engineer will play an important part in delivering geotechnical engineering projects for our clients across the UK, The Republic of Ireland and internationally. Take responsibility for discreet geotechnical investigation and design deliverables, as well as providing support to the Senior Engineers within the design team, undertaking various design duties including:

  • Assisting in the planning and execution of desk studies and ground investigations;
  • Assisting in the development of outline and detailed designs, supporting a wider multidisciplinary team and assisting in the implementation of innovative design solutions;
  • Complying with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation particularly CDM regulations;
  • Carrying out site visits, surveys, inspections and construction supervision;
  • Supporting development of Graduate Engineers, Degree Apprentices and Technicians.

You will have a BSc, BEng, MEng, or MSc in an appropriate ground engineering related subject (geotechnical/geological science or Civil Engineering + Geotechnics or equivalent); working towards Chartered or Incorporated status as defined by the Engineering Council, Geological Society of London or another relevant professional body; a proven ability to work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlines; you can demonstrate developing experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent with enthusiasm to learn and develop technical skills; you can contribute to the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working under supervision; have previous experience of using relevant Geotechnical design software and enthusiasm to learn new skills; have an appreciation of technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment; experienced in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
