We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site General Handy Person in HMYOI Drake Hall. HMYOI Drake Hall is a women’s prison and young offender institution, known for its supportive environment and strong focus on rehabilitation. The site offers a stable, purpose-driven setting where facilities teams play a key role in maintaining safe, high-quality standards across the establishment.
The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, 8am – 5pm (across 7 days as a weekend shift pattern is in place). There is an opportunity to participate in a 1 in 3 weekend rota, which adds an additional 15% allowance on top of your basic salary. This is entirely optional and not a mandatory requirement of the role. The salary is £27,426.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly. You’ll be joining a small, friendly and supportive team with a mix of experience levels, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn and develop.
As a General Handy Person, you will play a key role in keeping the establishment running smoothly, ensuring both planned and reactive maintenance tasks are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
What you will do:
- Collaborating with a dynamic team to perform general maintenance tasks and assist tradespeople on site.
- Taking on various FM duties as directed by the team manager.
- Maintaining high health and safety standards across the contract.
- Contributing to local and business zero carbon initiatives, strategically working towards sustainability goals.
What you will bring:
- Solid experience in DIY/ general building maintenance.
- CITB relevant certification or equivalent.
- Willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are required due to limited public transport links to the establishment.
