We are excited to offer a permanent Electrician position in HMP Birmingham. The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. Staff are required to work on a rota basis between 07:45am – 16:45pm, with one weekend in every four on a rota basis (and an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary). Base salary ranges between £29,009 – £35,015, dependent on experience.
What you will do:
- Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including associated administrative duties.
- Actively fault‑finding and problem‑solving on electrical systems across the prison.
- Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other electrical minor works, with the relevant electrical inspections and tests recorded in accordance with BS7671.
- Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively to create a secure and well‑maintained environment for staff and residents.
- Assist the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when requested.
- Ensure Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments, and Safe Systems of Work are consistently implemented and followed across all relevant work streams.
- Assist with escorting duties and other duties as required.
What you will bring:
- City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation Works, or equivalent.
- BS7671 18th Edition knowledge (or 17th Edition with upskilling).
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Experience with planned and preventative maintenance operations.
- Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Capability to work at heights, independently and with initiative.
- Knowledge of fire alarm and CCTV systems (desirable).
- Understanding of the Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Basic IT skills.
Prison Security Clearance will be required (Amey will support you through this process).
