We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. With a shared office space in Birmingham and the ability to work remotely, we invite applications from across the region.

Key Midland Frameworks

• Midlands Highway Alliance (MHA): This framework enables us to collaborate directly with 21 local authorities, delivering essential highway infrastructure and maintenance projects. The MHA contract encompasses a variety of tasks, from routine maintenance and upgrades to innovative highway design solutions.
• Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF): The SDF framework is managed in collaboration with Highways England, covering a comprehensive range of civil engineering projects, including highways, bridges, and more.
• Staffordshire Infrastructure Plus: Our partnership with Staffordshire County Council has delivered over £100m worth of major transport infrastructure projects, supporting the creation of over 12,000 new jobs and 10,000 new homes.

The role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Highways Engineer to support our Design and Development team. As a Civil Engineer, you will support the Senior Engineer and lead junior Engineers in the design and delivery of multiple highway projects ranging from junction improvements to new roads and bridges.

Responsibilities include:

• Producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
• The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables.
• Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
• Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of workload.
• Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
• Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full-time but temporary role.

What you will bring to us:

• Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
• The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income.
• Confidence to work under minimum supervision and competence to check the work of others.
• A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
• A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
• The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required.
• Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required.
