Location: Watford Gap Motorway Compound (M1, Jct 16/17) (NN67UZ). The role is primarily remote with travel to multiple locations as necessary.
Compensation: Competitive salary and overtime available.
Standard hours: 42 hours per week, Monday – Friday, with standby rota participation required.
What You’ll Do
- Carrying out reactive maintenance to highways technology equipment, including signs, signals, CCTV, emergency roadside telephones, queue protection and traffic counting equipment (including radar) and weather stations.
- Perform planned cyclic maintenance in accordance with client requirements, manufacturer guidelines and British Standards.
- Carry out electronic diagnostic checks on highway communications assets for fault identification and resolution.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation covering maintenance actions, fault findings, upgrades and asset conditions.
- Provide expert technical advice to colleagues, clients and contractors on procedures, issues and best practices.
- Assist with project administration and control, including progress tracking, resource management and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers and local authorities during deployment and integration of new highway communications infrastructure.
- Participate in system upgrades, technology enhancements and commissioning of new equipment.
- Oversee asset inventory and support emergency responses to critical incidents affecting highway technology systems.
- Contribute to health and safety compliance by performing risk assessments and following safe working practices.
- Engage in training initiatives, mentor junior engineers and pursue continuous professional development.
- Organise daily tasks as allocated by the Works Coordinator to ensure completion to client set time‑scales.
- As a lone worker, ensure that health and safety rules are always followed.
- Volunteer for nightworks when and if required.
Essential Qualifications
- A full UK driving licence.
- Familiarity with highway communications and electrical assets.
- Planning and organisation skills.
- Ability to work alone and as part of a wider team.
- Problem‑solving ability.
- IT literate.
- Self‑motivated and proactive in delivering solutions.
Desirable Qualifications
- A relevant qualification in an electrical or engineering discipline.
- Experience in highway technology or similar.
- 2391 Test and Inspection knowledge.
- 18th Edition wiring regulations knowledge.
