National Highways, formerly Highways England, have named Amey Consulting as a Design partner to support the delivery of the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme and Environment and Wellbeing Designated Funds that National Highways have ever launched. The £3.6bn Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) enables National Highways to procure Design and Construction services across the Strategic Road Network.
The Role
We are looking to grow our capacity on the Midlands SDF contract for National Highways. The role can be based anywhere in the Midlands as Amey have multiple offices across the region as well as the ability to work remotely. We view this Senior Environmental Consultant role as a key opportunity to work collaboratively with our design teams and our National Highways clients to build, develop and lead our delivery of Environmental Assessments across all the SDF projects in the Midlands. This role would involve providing input into and review of DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges) topics including Biodiversity, Landscape, Cultural Heritage, Waste & Materials, Population and Human Health, Climate and co-ordinating environmental projects ranging from scoping reports to full environmental assessments.
In a typical week, the job role will require:
- Line manage and mentor junior team members.
- Together you will provide Environmental input to SDF schemes around the Midlands.
- Working together with the Senior Ecologist your main responsibilities include allocation of resources, managing programme of works to ensure delivery to agreed budgets and timescales, implementation of contractual processes, development of staff, document review and authorisation and technical training requirements.
- Input into budgets and forecasting of future work.
- Provide guidance on best methods and practice to meet technical and project requirements through close liaison with Amey designers.
- Keep up to date with industry best practice.
- Work closely with our ecologists to advise on environmental aspects of projects including but not limited to environmental assessments, ecological studies and environmental hazards.
- Undertake environmental site visits, inspections and assist in environmental surveys, to inform project designers throughout multiple disciplines (structures, geotechnical, drainage, highways).
- Prepare and review technical reports in line with all relevant legislation, technical standards and guidance.
- Liaise with statutory bodies including the Environment Agency, Natural England and Local Authorities.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- An undergraduate degree in Environmental Science or other similar/equivalent subject and must have an interest in a wide variety of environmental topics including ecology with 6+ years’ experience delivering environmental assessment reporting within a consultancy environment.
- Membership of a professional body or relevant qualifications/experience leading to membership.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment interacting with all disciplines in the environment team as well as design teams, clients and stakeholders.
- Experience of working on infrastructure projects and contractual management is desirable.
- Ability to manage budgets, resourcing and plan workload, ensuring project stages are delivered on time and on budget.
