This is a full‑time permanent role. Working hours are 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (with 3:30 pm finish on Friday) and occasional night shift. The position offers a competitive salary and overtime. Our NMC NE Account, awarded in 2022, supports Transport Scotland and will deliver improved service levels to the trunk road network.
Work includes maintenance, road safety, bridges and structures and discrete improvement schemes, with a focus on climate change and sustainability targets. Highways Maintenance Operatives are essential for maintaining safe and efficient roads, reducing accidents, and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Their work minimises vehicle emissions, prevents flooding and keeps roads clear during winter. They also pick litter to enhance environments and public spaces.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake various highway maintenance tasks, including carriageway and footway patching, kerbing, ironwork replacement, and drainage maintenance.
- Operate and maintain vehicles, including HGVs and small plant machinery, ensuring all checks and routine maintenance are completed.
- Participate in winter and summer standby duties, including emergency callouts.
- Ensure safety for yourself and the team.
- Keep accurate records and complete necessary paperwork, maintaining communication and liaising with Amey employees, sub‑contractors, emergency services, police, clients, and customers.
- Experience in roads and/or street works.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Awareness and adherence to Health and Safety regulations.
- Self‑motivated and collaborative team player.
- Previous winter maintenance experience is ideal.
- HGV licence preferred but not essential.
