We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. This is a hybrid position with shared office space in Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and we welcome applications from Engineers across Scotland. Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.
The role of our Civil Engineers is important within the Design team and alongside our client, Transport Scotland. Responsibilities include:
- Working in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
- The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
- Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of workload.
- Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
- Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working.
What you will bring to us:
- Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
- The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income.
- Confidence to work under minimum supervision and competence to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff.
- A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
- A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
- The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required.
- Ability to deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required.
- Keeping up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate applying best practice within the team.
