We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways Team. With office space in Nottingham, Birmingham and Stafford, we invite applications from across the Midlands.

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. The Opportunity

  • Midlands Highway Alliance (MHA): This framework enables us to collaborate directly with 21 local authorities, delivering essential highway infrastructure and maintenance projects. The MHA contract encompasses a variety of tasks, from routine maintenance and upgrades to innovative highway design solutions.
  • Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF): The SDF framework is managed in collaboration with Highways England, covering a comprehensive range of civil engineering projects, including highways, bridges, and more.
  • Staffordshire Infrastructure Plus: Our partnership with Staffordshire County Council under this long-term contract has delivered over £100m worth of major transport infrastructure projects.

What you will be doing:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Highways Engineer to support our Design and Development team. As a Civil Engineer, you will support the Senior Engineer and lead junior Engineers in the design and delivery of multiple highway projects ranging from junction improvements to new roads and bridges.

Responsibilities include:

  • Producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables.
  • Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
  • Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
  • Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of workload.
  • Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
  • Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
  • The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way.
  • A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
  • A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
  • The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required.
  • Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required.
  • Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team.
