We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a 12‑Month contract Head of Communications with hybrid working and occasional travel to the London office.

Hours of work: 20 hours per week (job share).

The role provides the Business Unit with consistent, high‑quality communications and marketing support across the full remit, in close partnership with a co‑role holder.

What You Will Do

  • Strategic Communications Leadership
  • Support the Managing Director and Business Unit senior leadership team with the delivery of internal and external communications, ensuring clear ownership, consistency and continuity across the job share.
  • With your job‑share colleague design and deliver the Business Unit annual communications plan, aligned to strategic objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business to build understanding of the Business Unit’s capabilities, priorities and strategy.
  • Internal, Change and Employee Communications
  • Lead the delivery of internal and change communications across the Business Unit, ensuring colleagues are informed, engaged and connected to the wider Amey strategy.
  • Drive brand relevance, consistency and engagement across all touchpoints, recognising the role of employees as brand ambassadors.
  • Work with People Directors and the recruitment team to embed Amey’s Employee Value Proposition and support employee and recruitment communication needs.
  • Marketing, Brand and Work‑Winning Support
  • Partner with the central marketing team to deliver Business Unit marketing activity that positions Amey effectively in relevant sectors and supports bids, growth and new business opportunities.
  • Advise Business Unit teams on how to use Amey’s brand narrative, proof points and sector strengths to shape compelling work‑winning narratives.
  • Work with the central marketing team to ensure brand and marketing products and services support new Business Unit opportunities as they arise.
  • Identify and develop case studies that showcase Amey’s capabilities, strengthen the brand and support growth priorities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Profile Building
  • Build effective internal and external networks to identify opportunities to promote Amey and raise the profile of the Business Unit.
  • Develop strong relationships across the Business Unit, central communications and marketing teams, People, work‑winning and business development teams to ensure activity is joined up and impactful.
  • Quality, Governance and Job Share Continuity
  • Oversee, prepare, write and edit communications materials to ensure consistency, accuracy and high standards across all channels.
  • Maintain robust handover processes, shared planning tools and regular alignment with the job‑share partner to support seamless delivery and a consistent stakeholder experience.
  • Provide clear direction, prioritisation and continuity across the full communications and marketing remit, ensuring the role operates effectively within a job share arrangement.

  • Excellent understanding of all aspects of a communications function
  • Sector knowledge (advantage)
  • Experience of working in a matrix organisation and using resources from teams not directly line managed
  • Understanding of central and local government environments (advantage)
  • Experience of working in part‑time leadership or job share arrangements (beneficial)
