We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways Team. With office space in Nottingham, Birmingham and Stafford, we invite applications from across the Midlands. The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns.
The Opportunity:
- Midlands Highway Alliance (MHA): This framework enables us to collaborate directly with 21 local authorities, delivering essential highway infrastructure and maintenance projects.
- Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF): The SDF framework is managed in collaboration with Highways England, covering a comprehensive range of civil engineering projects, including highways, bridges, and more.

What You Will Be Doing:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Highways Engineer to support our Design and Development team. As a Civil Engineer, you will support the Senior Engineer and lead junior Engineers in the design and delivery of multiple highway projects. Responsibilities include:
- Producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
- The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation.
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level.
- Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team.
- Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
- Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role.
We Want To Hear From You If You Have:
- A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
- The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way.
- A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
- A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design.
- The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required.
