We have a fantastic opportunity for a Highways Maintenance Operative/Bridge Operative to join our Severn Bridges Inspection and Maintenance (SBIM) contract in Bristol, working on the Severn Bridge with occasional travel and work on the other two bridges including POW and Avonmouth. This role is onsite. The SBIM contract is to deliver the inspection and maintenance programme along with scheme on behalf of National Highways. This is a great opportunity to learn about quality in the specialist structures industry.
Highway Maintenance Operative plays an important part in all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civil works, litter picking, etc. Undertake winter and emergency call out and standby. Standard hours of work: 37.5 per week + overtime available, and an optional callout rota.
What You’ll Do- Attend project and work briefings as required.
- Drive/operate vehicles and plant requiring general and specialist skills, including vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning.
- Carry out all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civil works, litter picking, painting, blasting, concrete works, and road works.
- Execute winter maintenance operations.
- Respond to emergency call out operations.
- Take responsibility for the safety of yourself and others within your team to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and safe operation to protect members of the public.
- Carry out vehicle checks prior to shift starting and correctly fill in defect books.
- Allocate and capture time and resource utilisation in line with the operated allocation system.
- Maintain records, complete required paperwork, and communicate with Amey staff, subcontractors, emergency services, police, public, clients, and customers.
- Operate gantry vehicles.
- Drivers Licence.
