We have an exciting new opportunity for a Gantry Maintenance Manager in Glasgow, this is a full time Permanent role. The hours for the role will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday and the position offers a competitive salary.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, manages ongoing major structural maintenance, inspections, and resurfacing works across the A898 and M898, including the iconic Erskine Bridge. These works form part of the South West Network Management Contract, ensuring the continued structural integrity, safety, and operational reliability of this critical River Clyde crossing.

Key Responsibilities Including:

  • Control gantry operations, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient use of underdeck gantries and associated access systems.
  • Maintain certification and competence, ensuring all gantries, runway beams, and lifting equipment are appropriately certified, and that only trained, inducted, and competent personnel operate or maintain access systems.
  • Manage inspection and maintenance regimes, ensuring inspections and servicing are delivered in accordance with the Erskine Bridge Maintenance Manual, Erskine Bridge Underdeck Gantries Operating Manual and required inspection frequencies, including pre‑use, post‑severe weather and general/principal inspections.
  • Oversee mechanical, electrical, and specialist equipment maintenance, ensuring all access systems and ancillary equipment remain serviceable and fit for use.
  • Ensure robust safety and operational controls, including compliance with standards, approved method statements, emergency arrangements, PPE requirements, LOLER inspections, and safe systems of work (including IRATA compliance where applicable).
  • Control documentation and records, ensuring all manuals, inspection records, maintenance logs, training records, and defect reports are current, complete, and auditable.
  • Manage non‑routine and high‑risk operations, ensuring appropriate risk assessments, method statements, and specialist procedures are in place for complex or unusual gantry movements and working arrangements.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and asset records, including gantry components, specialist access equipment, and spares.
  • Assist with coordination of Subcontractors within the Erskine Bridge Compound when working on various As of Right and Works Contracts.
  • Other general maintenance and site supervision duties as required at Erskine or alternative locations within the SW network.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience within an operational, maintenance or plant-based environment.
  • Hands‑on involvement in the inspection, maintenance or operation of plant, machinery or specialist equipment.
  • Experience working within controlled safety environments, following permits, procedures or inspection regimes.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver work safely and efficiently.
  • Strong understanding of plant, access systems or specialist equipment, including safe operation principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation such as manuals, inspection schedules and method statements.
  • Good knowledge of safety management practices, including permits, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Confident communicator, able to work effectively with internal teams and external specialists.
  • Proactive approach to learning, with the ability to develop technical capability and take on increased responsibility.
  • Methodical and safety‑focused, with a strong commitment to following procedures in a safety‑critical environment.
  • Clear and effective communicator who supports coordinated and safe delivery of work.
  • Positive and proactive mindset, contributing to team development, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Training:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Mechanical, Electrical, Plant, Construction or Civil Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • IOSH Working Safely (or similar) – or willingness to obtain.
  • LOLER or lifting operations awareness – or willingness to obtain.

It is essential you hold a full UK driving licence to be considered for this role.
