The role Due to the increased workload, we are seeking to recruit a Principal Flood Modeller and Team Leader. The successful candidate will undertake and oversee the production of Flood Management Modelling and design, leading a dedicated flood management modelling team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Flooding and Water Management team in Scotland in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, providing effective support and assistance to modellers and team leaders on a variety of flood schemes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief
- Undertake a wide range of modelling work on all aspects of the function's design and maintenance
- Implement effective, value for money and innovative modelling design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
- Progress projects through preliminary and detailed modelling design with emphasis on client requirements and innovation
- Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
- Supervise, mentor and develop team members from senior modelers, through to graduate modelers and technicians
- Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming
- Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets
- Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees
- Support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts
- Effective management and response of project-related correspondence
- Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in the development
- Prepare and check feasibility studies, appraisal/assessment reports and other written documents
- Development of engineering solutions and presents engineering options
- Complete performance appraisals with direct reports and provide learning and development opportunities where possible
What you will bring to us:
- Demonstrable high-level experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Modeller role or equivalent
- An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
- Have extensive experience in Infoworks ICM, FloodModeller or HecRas and hydrological modelling techniques
- Have experience in managing project-related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Are experienced in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
- Have a Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
- Have Chartered status held with an appropriate professional body, with notable post graduate experience in flood risk management projects
- Know technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment
- Are an accredited training manager with a relevant professional institution, e.g. Supervising Civil Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers
- Capable of acting as modelling lead or engineering day-to-day main contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission
