We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site Electrician in HMP Cardiff, Knox Rd, Cardiff CF24 0UG. The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday - Thursday 07:30 – 16:30, Friday 07:30 – 15:30. 1 in 3 weekends with 15% uplift shift allowance.
At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly. The Electrician plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner. Previous experience with planned preventative maintenance is preferred but not essential. While a Level 3 qualification is preferred, we are open to interviewing candidates with a Level 2 qualification.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring Health & Safety standards are met across the contract
- Testing and inspecting electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations
- Responding promptly to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently
- Performing planned and preventative electrical maintenance and diagnosing/replacing failed domestic electrical components
- Actively fault finding and problem solving on domestic electrical systems
- Undertaking electrical installation activities according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations
- Monitoring and ordering critical spares for all electrical services, and oversee the BMS System
- Supporting zero carbon initiatives, contributing to sustainability goals, and handling additional tasks as directed by your line manager
What You Will Bring
- City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent
- BS7671 18th Edition, however, we will consider 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements
- Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations
- Excellent organisational, time management and people skills
- Experience of working under pressure to tight deadlines
- Able to work at heights, to work independently and use initiative
- Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems (Desirable)
- Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations
- Basic IT skills
