We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways & Transportation Team. With office space in Cardiff, we invite applications from across Wales. The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns.
The Cardiff Highways team has a healthy pipeline of high-profile and diverse project work on the South East Wales Technical and Professional Services Framework (SEWTAPS), South West and Mid Wales Regional Civil Engineering Services Framework (SWMWRCES), South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) and North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency, all with exciting roles from Project Manager through to Design Manager, all with exposure to local Clients within Wales. What You Will Be Doing
- As an Assistant Civil Engineer, you will play an important part in every stage of a project from inception to completion.
- Responsibilities include:
- To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
- Supporting the management and technical delivery of projects from start to finish, including design development, principal inspections/special inspections, feasibility and other technical reports.
- Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Support effective health and safety practices within the team.
We Want To Hear From You If You Have
- Developed experience and expertise within the Civil Engineering field, probably gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent.
- Knowledge of highways design processes and procedures.
- Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working without significant supervision and moving towards overseeing more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
- Experience in following procedures associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of technical and specification processes and is starting to take ownership for the production of deliverables with appropriate supervision.
- Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools.
- A basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment.
- Experience in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject.
