Hours: 39 hours per week (rota includes 1 in 3 weekends)

Mon–Thu: 08:00 – 17:00

Fri–Sun: 08:00 – 16:00

1 in 3 weekends (on rota, +15% allowance)

The Role

Joining HMP Humber’s team, a General Building Operative will support the delivery of essential maintenance services across the site, carrying out general repairs and working with tradespeople to ensure the prison runs safely and efficiently.

Key Duties

  • General maintenance and DIY tasks across the site
  • Assisting trades (painting, repairs, basic installs)
  • Putting up fixtures, building furniture, minor repairs
  • Escorting contractors when required
  • Checking fittings and reporting defects
  • Maintaining clean, safe grounds (including basic outdoor work)

What You’ll Need

  • Experience in general building maintenance or DIY
  • Basic trade skills (multi‑skilled preferred)
  • NVQ / CITB / trade qualification (or equivalent)
  • Reliable, team player with a strong work ethic
  • Willingness to learn and develop
  • Security Clearance: Prison Security clearance and Standard DBS required (we’ll support you).
