Due to an ever-increasing climate-focused pipeline, we have a unique and exciting opportunity for a Senior Climate Consultant. You will be joining the Climate and Air Quality team at an exciting period of growth – the former is a new area of growth, and we have secured a large-scale standalone climate risk and adaptation project. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth and direction of our team, to shape and deliver impactful environmental projects, and support in work winning and mentoring apprentices in air quality and climate.
The role is for a permanent Senior Climate Consultant to join our team. With shared office space in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester and York we welcome applications based in any of these locations.
You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of our work. You will work in a friendly, supportive environment and will be given one to one support, mentoring, learning and development via experienced colleagues. Our Senior Climate Consultant will play an important part within the Climate and Air Quality team and alongside the wider Energy Transition & Sustainability team. As a senior consultant, you will be a key support to the Climate and Air Quality Team Lead, contributing to the production of technically sound deliverables for Environmental commissions, supporting in work winning and mentoring junior colleagues.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing the preparation and checking of reports, designs, calculations and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Climate change risk assessments for projects.
- Carrying out all stages of qualitative and quantitative air quality assessments for roads and industrial permitting.
- Working and delivering on climate risk assessments and contributing to the development of adaptation plans by working and collaborating across cross-functional teams.
- Supporting in writing bids for climate tenders.
- Helping mentor more junior colleagues.
- Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
- Communicating with clients, external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with all project requirements.
What will you be Doing?
Climate:
- Conduct thorough climate risk assessments for clients, identifying potential vulnerabilities and exposures to climate-related hazards.
- Utilise climate projections such as UKCP18, GIS tools, and other analytical methods to evaluate risks and project future climate impacts.
- Help explore and develop methods of utilising climate data within the CEDA Catalogue.
- Develop and implement tailored climate resilience strategies and action plans for clients, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
- Working and collaborating with digital, asset management, engineers and environmental teams to develop innovative climate change solutions.
- Recommend specific adaptation and mitigation measures to enhance clients' resilience to climate change.
Business Development
- Support in delivering growth and generate business opportunities in the Air Quality and Climate Change sectors to support the team’s targets.
- Support the identification of new opportunities for climate resilience services and contribute to business development efforts.
- Support the preparation of proposals and bids for new projects, showcasing the value of air quality and climate resilience consulting.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in climate science, the wider environmental landscape policy, and technology to provide cutting-edge solutions.
- Support in continuously improving methodologies and tools used for climate risk and air quality assessments.
- Ensure all projects comply with relevant regulations.
What you will bring to us:
- Demonstrable experience working in the environmental/climate sector.
- Experience preparing climate change risk or adaptation assessments.
- A relevant first degree (or equivalent) in science and/or engineering and preferably a relevant second degree (or equivalent).
- Relevant Full Membership or working towards for IAQM and/or IEMA.
- Excellent knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation, in particular the Environmental Permitting Regulations, Industrial Emissions Directive and BAT Reference Documents (BRef), together with other relevant legislation and guidance.
- A track record of contributing to EIAs and industrial environmental permitting activities.
- Experience with climate projections and climate data (e.g., UKCP18 and HadCRUT5).
- Experienced user of GIS and Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences, including excellent presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- An entrepreneurial and innovative mindset.
- Experience of climate assessments in the context of Task Force on Climate-Related Disclosures (TCFD) and the Equator Principles.
