We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Proposals Manager to join our Work Winning team and support our ambitious growth plan. This is a remote role that will require regular travel, usually to Birmingham or London. Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The Proposals Manager will lead their team of bid writers to the development of high‑quality, client‑focused and persuasive bid submissions which differentiate Amey to win new work. The Proposals Manager will act as ‘quality lead’ on individual growth opportunities, managing all proposals resource and coordinating associated activities. What You Will Do- Lead, plan and manage development of high‑quality content and persuasive, client‑focused SQ/PQQ and bid submissions.
- Deliver a quality service to bid teams covering proposals management and coordination, specifically bid writing.
- Act as the ‘quality lead’ on individual bids, with responsibility for managing a team of proposals professionals and subject‑matter experts to produce compliant, easy‑to‑read and winning bid responses.
- Own the proposals management process, based on the Shipley process and APMP best practice, to ensure high levels of bid team engagement and compliance.
- Implement standard tools such as style guides, answer plan templates and reviewer guidelines to facilitate better bidding.
- Facilitate tender answer planning and review processes to ensure responses are structured in line with question requirements and the client’s evaluation criteria, persuasive and easy to evaluate.
- Support bid writers, wider proposals resources and bid team members to achieve high‑scoring responses and coach and mentor more junior members of the team as required.
- Contribute to and facilitate win plan development workshops to help identify client ‘hot buttons’ and develop compelling value propositions and aligned win themes which differentiate Amey.
- Analyse and interpret client requirements and work with Bid Leads to develop high‑level response structures in advance of answer planning workshops.
- Oversee all content generation on individual SQs/PQQs and bids (approach and evidence) in line with client requirements.
- Develop and line‑manage individual bid writers and help develop bid writing and reviewing competencies in operational staff to foster an environment of best practice and continuous improvement and improve efficiency of the bid process.
- Act as a reviewer and editor for quality submissions, feeding back to the Bid Lead, section leads and bid writers on the quality and content of bids and provide constructive, specific feedback on how to improve responses.
- Carry out bid writing activities as required for strategic bids and work with Bid Leads to develop key responses for strategic bids (e.g. executive summaries, delivery methodologies or those with the highest weighting).
- Support knowledge management through development and maintenance of our Content Library, identifying and capturing good quality, high‑scoring content and encouraging its use by bid teams to drive efficiency and share best practice.
- Facilitate lessons learned sessions with Bid Leads following completion of a bid and receipt of client feedback to embed continuous improvement and maximise chances of success on future opportunities.
- Embrace new technologies and AI tools and implement these in proposals development to help increase our win rate.
- Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent.
- APMP Foundation or Practitioner certification would be a significant advantage.
- Confident people manager able to interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders at all organisational levels and develop relationships to establish trust, credibility and respect.
- Able to influence and persuade bid teams and key stakeholders to accept a particular way forward, and deal with any resistance to creative proposals in a collaborative and constructive way.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex information, including client requirements, into accessible and easily understood content in technical subject areas.
- Able to work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality standards under pressure.
- Collaborative team player, motivating others to achieve winning results.
- Process oriented, with a focus on implementing structured work‑winning processes to deliver consistent results.
- Strong project management skills, able to lead multiple assignments and prioritise tasks to meet agreed deadlines.
