We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Bid Manager (Fixed Term - Maternity Cover) to join our Work Winning team in Transport Infrastructure. As Principal Bid Manager for Rail, you will play a crucial role in our organization’s growth by leading and coordinating bid programmes for major rail infrastructure projects. You will ensure that all bids are profitable, of the highest quality, and strategically aligned with our objectives, whilst building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing effective bid strategies tailored to the rail sector.
  • Overseeing both technical and commercial submissions.
  • Managing communications with all stakeholders.
  • Ensuring governance and compliance are upheld throughout the bid process.

The standard working hours are 37.5 per week remotely, with travel to the IDH Birmingham office or bid locations for team meetings as needed. Some short haul overseas travel will be required as part of this role.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and oversee the bid process for both major rail programmes and individual rail project bids, ensuring effective planning and allocation of resources tailored to the rail sector.
  • Develop rail-specific bid strategies in partnership with Business Stream or Account Directors, ensuring that win plans are in place for all significant rail infrastructure opportunities.
  • Manage the progress of rail bids, making sure activities align with the overall bid programme and that objectives are clearly communicated to all stakeholders involved in rail projects.
  • Guide the production of high-quality technical and commercial bid documentation for rail projects, ensuring all submissions reflect agreed rail strategies and industry standards.
  • Facilitate the creation of operational solutions and commercial strategies designed to drive continuous improvement and competitiveness across rail bids.
  • Implement and manage robust protocols for communication and document management throughout the entire rail bid process.
  • Maintain proactive communications with rail clients and respond promptly to any rail bid clarifications or queries.
  • Prepare internal approval papers and manage the bid budget for rail submissions, including conducting risk and opportunity assessments specific to rail projects.
  • Keep rail bid tools and databases updated, contributing to reports that track the performance and outcomes of rail bids as required.
  • Oversee business-led (minor) rail bids to ensure strict adherence to governance and established processes within the rail sector.
  • Conduct thorough document reviews for rail bids, consolidate stakeholder feedback, and implement continuous improvements to enhance the quality of future rail submissions.
  • Support and mentor other Bid Managers and Leads in the rail team, including facilitating rail-focused bid workshops and delivering training for operational and work-winning staff involved in rail projects.

Bids led will cover a range of Amey services and will vary in duration, size and complexity, depending on the client’s requirements and procurement processes. Bids may be standalone Amey opportunities or working with strategic partners delivered as a joint venture or consortium.
