Senior Civil Engineer
Permanent position based in Belfast, within Amey Consulting’s Highways Team. The role supports local projects in Northern Ireland and remote initiatives across the UK and Ireland. We offer a 40‑hour work week with flexible, hybrid, part‑time and remote working options.
About the role
Our Senior Engineers play an important part within the Highways and Active Travel team. As a Senior Civil Engineer you will lead junior engineers in designing and delivering a range of highway and public transport projects, including cycleways, greenways, junction improvements, highway drainage, bus priority measures, pavement schemes, maintenance programmes, and major roads or bridges.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on the delivery of scheme design and support the Design Team Leader with design duties, including:
- Surveys/Inspections
- Feasibility and other technical reports
- Planning, programming and cost estimation
- Design production
- Production of design schedules
- Reviewing and amending design drawings
- Production of Specifications
- Supporting the development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians
- Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time
- Drive effective health and safety practices within the team
- Liaise with clients and community partners to ensure solutions are suitable for buildability and maintainability
Prepare technical reports such as Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports.
Qualifications
- Developed experience and expertise within highways/civil engineering, typically from an Engineer role or equivalent
- Comprehensive knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to the civil engineering discipline
- Ability to produce or oversee technically sound highways engineering solutions in compliance with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
- Experience in undertaking project‑related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g., Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Successful completion of the initial professional development leading to either Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
- Demonstrable commitment to the plan of actions and key dates required for professional review or end‑point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject or demonstrable equivalent further learning
- IEng or CEng status is desirable, gained through the professional institution to which the individual is aligned
