The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Structures Engineer / Assistant Bridges Engineer to join our Consulting Structures Team in Belfast. With shared office space in our Belfast office and the ability to work remotely, we invite applications from across Northern Ireland.
Our 150 strong Belfast Design Hub delivers a range of local, national and international projects for clients including Department for Infrastructure – TRAM (Roads) & WDD (Rivers), Translink, National Highways, Transport Scotland and Network Rail. Our multidisciplinary team encapsulates Highway Engineering, Bridge/Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, River & Coastal Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Traffic Engineering/Transport Planning, as well as being the BIM Centre of Excellence for Amey.

The role
As an Assistant Engineer, you will play an important part in every stage of a project from inception to completion. Responsibilities include:
- To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions
- Supporting the management and technical delivery of projects from start to finish, including:
- Design development
- Structural assessments
- Principal Inspections / Special Inspections
- Feasibility and other technical reports
- Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme
What you will bring to us:
- Developed experience and expertise within Structural / Civil Engineering field, probably gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent.
- Knowledge of structural design processes and procedures
- Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working without significant supervision and moving towards overseeing more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
- Experienced in following procedures associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Amey’s Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Has knowledge and understanding of technical and specification processes and is starting to take ownership for the production of deliverables with appropriate supervision
- Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools
- Has a basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on project.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects
