We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an Electrical Apprentice to join our SBIM account based in Severn Bridge. Read on to find out what you will need to succeed in this position, including skills, qualifications, and experience.
Starting Salary: 25,913.00 per annum (Subject to review)
Location: Severn Bridge, Specialist Bridges - M5 Avonmouth Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge, M48 Severn Bridge.
Working hours per week: Monday - Thursday 7:00-15:30 & Friday 07:00-15:00. Optional overtime weekend & Night work. 40hrs/week
Start date: September 2026
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 programme, which takes approximately 39 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered college, with 1-2-1 guidance, e-learning materials, and a team of experts on hand to provide advice and technical knowledge in your workplace.

Severn Bridges is working in partnership with National Highways on the Specialist Bridges Inspection & Maintenance contract across three major structures in the Southwest of England over a 15-year period. This includes: M5 Avonmouth Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and M48 Severn Bridge. We are responsible for cyclic maintenance, daily structural inspection checks, safety patrols, and responding to incidents affecting structural integrity.
What you will do:
- Maintenance and repair of under-deck gantries.
- Testing and commissioning.
- Fault finding and diagnostics.
- Electrical testing and inspection.
- Maintenance of 110V/230V/410V systems.
- Designing and installing new electrical circuits.
- Streetlighting maintenance.
- Aerial and marine navigation lighting.
- Planned and reactive maintenance.
- Reporting faults and defects to the relevant department.
- Work at height using MEWPs and elevated platforms.
- Maintain and test 110v tools and equipment, including PAT testing of IT equipment.
- Conduct periodic maintenance and repair of CCTV, intruder alarms and fire alarm systems.
- Support specialist subcontractors on high-voltage (11kV) maintenance, traction passenger lifts and rack-and-pinion lifts.
What you will bring:
- GCSEs (grade C/4 or above) in Maths, English and Science.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to meet DBS requirements.
- Good communication skills.
