We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Principal Project Manager to join our Consulting Rail Design team. We welcome applications from Principal Project Managers across the north region centring on York, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield. Supporting our growing project management team, delivering work on our Northern Powerhouse Rail framework, specifically on the Sheffield Programme of work. The standard working week is 37.5 hours, with flexible working practices available to support how you work as your life evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of an exciting ES3 multi‑disciplinary project focusing on Sheffield Station.
  • Act as a project management team leader, providing advice, guidance and supervision to project management teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams from across the North in the delivery of this high‑profile project as part of a five‑year framework.
  • Comply with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • Control budgets and manage the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
  • Oversee the actions of junior staff undertaking similar tasks and take responsibility for their actions.
  • Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level and higher, including presenting proposals and attending progress meetings.
  • Act as the day‑to‑day main project management contact for the project where required.
  • Assume the role of people manager when required by the business.
  • Drive effective health and safety practices within the team.
  • Apply project management theory and principles to complex or ambiguous situations.
  • Take ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables to a reasonable standard.
  • Use project management software and tools, checking work produced by others, validating and approving new tools.

Qualifications

  • Developed experience and expertise within the field of Project Management.
  • Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with the management of health, safety and welfare, e.g. Integrated Management System and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  • Excellent commercial awareness.
  • Excellent knowledge of suppliers and the services they provide, maintained through regular contact.
  • Excellent oral communication skills, able to present arguments and ideas very well to peers, senior colleagues and clients; able to deliver internal training workshops to peers and presentations to clients.
  • Excellent understanding of Health, Safety and Welfare, including specific regulations.
  • Successful completion of either the professional review or end point assessment, resulting in the award of Incorporated or Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in an appropriate subject.
  • Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status with the Association for Project Management (or equivalent).
