We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Operative in HMP Long Lartin. The salary is £26,141.95. The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week. Staff are required to work on a rota basis between 08:00–17:00 Monday–Thursday; 08:00–16:00 Friday to Sunday. There is a need to work 1 in 3 weekends on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary). At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

The Grounds Maintenance Operative plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • General maintenance such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves and litter, verges, weed spraying, tree care, horticulture activities including planting, pruning and seeding.
  • Erecting and dismantling equipment, operating light plant and power tools, undertaking cutting equipment checks.
  • Setting out, making sports pitches including grass and tarmac with upkeep of artificial, synthetic pitches in recreational areas.
  • Painting sundry equipment.
  • Drainage works.
  • General housekeeping, including litter picking around the grounds if required.
  • All other FM duties as directed by the team manager.
  • Supporting both local and business zero‑carbon programmes, working towards zero‑carbon in a strategic and lean manner where appropriate.
  • Ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
Qualifications
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Knowledge and experience of gardening, horticulture operations and grounds maintenance duties.
  • Weed spraying certificate.
  • Experience operating light plant and equipment and wheeled tractors.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Chainsaw training: CS34, CS30/CS31, Chainsaw maintenance and CrossCut.
  • Ladder use.
