As a Highways Construction Site Supervisor Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of highway maintenance and construction works within Area 12. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop the skills necessary to supervise and manage highway construction and maintenance projects. Working with our Operations and Scheme Delivery teams, you'll support on-site delivery in the construction phase of our projects. You'll also learn how we manage the performance on-site of our internal Maintenance and Response teams and specialist supply chain contractors.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the supervision of highway construction and maintenance activities
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely project delivery
- Monitor and report on project progress, identifying any issues or delays
- Support the preparation of site documentation, including risk assessments and method statements
- Participate in site meetings and contribute to project planning and scheduling
- Learn and apply best practices in highway construction and maintenance, identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours
- Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects
- Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
- Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers
- Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan
- Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects
- Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget
Training and Qualifications
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Construction Site Supervisor level 4 apprenticeship which will take approximately 39 months to complete. You will be fully supported by our partnered college to achieve this qualification, having 1-2-1 advice and support, e-learning materials, and a whole team of experts on hand for advice and technical knowledge at your office.
GCSE Maths and English (grade C/4 or above); communicate your other qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

GCSE Maths and English Grade C/4 or completed level 3 construction apprenticeships or minimum of 5 years experience in construction site role. Full UK driverβs license. DBS requirement. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; random drug and alcohol testing may be required.
