International Risk and Control sit within International Card Services (ICS) which comprises all the issuing functions across all 28 international markets excluding the US - colleagues operate across a variety of geographies and disciplines. ICS issues products to our Consumer and Commercial customers; the organization is an integral part of the global growth strategy for American Express, offering differentiated products and services to drive growth and value through the delivery of innovative products tailored to the needs of our customers. The objective of the ICS Risk & Control teams is to enable safe, sound and sustainable business growth, and to support our International Legal Entities to deliver on their control and compliance obligations. The Business Conduct Teams purpose is to empower sustainable growth by embedding ethics, risk insights, and resilient controls into every decision so customers, colleagues, and shareholders trust we do business the right way.
How will you make an impact in this role?
- Support the design, implementation, and governance of the risk & control framework across international business units.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure business growth strategies are aligned with risk appetite and regulatory requirements e.g. ICS Market Commercial, Marketing & Acquisition leads, Compliance, Legal, Colleague Labour Relations, Internal Audit, Data and Analytic teams.
- Provide PMO support across Business Conduct initiatives, including tracking milestones, preparing reports and facilitating decision-making forums for the LT.
- Act as a trusted advisor to help shape the Business Conduct roadmap and priorities, ensuring proactive identification of risk and controls.
- Bring structure and clarity to ambiguous situations, helping teams align around a shared vision in a fast-changing environment.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, risk registers, and reporting to track progress and highlight emerging risks and dependencies.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive a culture of strong risk management while supporting innovation and growth.
- Prepare high-quality presentations and briefing materials for senior leadership.
- Support the development of best practice methodologies for risk governance and project delivery within the Risk & Control Programme Management Office.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in risk and control, conduct risk, or PMO roles within a financial services or regulated environment.
- Experience across the ICS business (e.g. market, acquisition, commercial, marketing) is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to create structure in ambiguous and evolving environments.
- Proven ability to support senior decision-making through data-driven insights and risk analysis.
- Proven track record of working effectively across cultures, adapting to different ways of working and communication style.
- Familiar with complex programmes which span across multiple markets.
- Strong proficiency in project management tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Confluence.
