As a Buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing from the MRP system to the assigned planner workbench, and following action messages to keep material receipts aligned to business needs, including sub-contract orders. Develop a personal savings plan to offset headwinds.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

  • Ensure parts and material are bought at the most competitive price, correct quality, lead-time and are delivered on-time for production.
  • Manage and control the company’s external suppliers within the business cell structure.
  • Develop relationships with current suppliers and sub-contractors.
  • Process all sub-contract operations, ensuring swift turnaround of parts in line with business needs.
  • Ensure key relationships are built with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement personal savings and on-cost tracker.
  • Ensure the timely return of all defective material and ensure corrective actions are put in place to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist with MRP system updates.
  • Drive improvements in supplier on-time delivery with key and non-key accounts.
  • Continually improve purchasing methods and drive down external spend.

Other Responsibilities / Non-essential Functions

  • Undertake training that is identified as a requirement of the role as identified by the role manager.
  • Undertake all other reasonable requests that are made by the role manager/acting manager or Directors.
  • At times of reduced department staff attendance there will be a need to be flexible and provide support outside of the normal tasks of the job to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • On occasion you may be required to take on ad hoc duties which includes, but is not limited to, training, department associated tasks and brief secondment to other departments.

Limits Of Fiscal/Management Authority

  • Sign off purchase orders in line with the financial guidelines.
  • Not permitted to change Business Management System processes, procedures and guidelines without formal approval, but expected to make recommendations.

Professional Knowledge & Experience

  • Preferred purchasing experience within an aerospace / defence / manufacturing environment with some technical knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings.
  • Ability to negotiate with proven results to demonstrate effectiveness.
  • Able to communicate and influence at all levels of the hierarchy through presentations, verbal and written especially directed at supplier interaction.
  • Ability to work on their own as well as part of a team.
