Responsibilities
- Lead the design and optimization of electric machines (motors and generators), considering electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal aspects.
- Perform detailed analysis using simulation tools such as ANSYS MotorCAD, ANSYS Maxwell, and some understanding of FEA-based mechanical/CFD tools.
- Generate analytical models and calculations to verify sizing, performance, losses, efficiency, and NVH characteristics.
- Support proposal writing as part of technical work package management from concept to production, ensuring compliance with functional, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret customer specifications and translate them into robust machine topologies and design concepts.
- Lead or contribute significantly to DFMEA activities and ensure design robustness and risk mitigation.
- Support manufacturing teams on the shop floor to support winding, lamination inspection, assembly processes, and prototype builds as needed.
- Support validation and qualification testing, including electrical, mechanical, and thermal performance tests.
- Produce high quality engineering reports, design documentation, DFMEA artefacts, test plans, and technical presentations.
- Prepare and review 2D/3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and BOMs where required.
- Support creation of verification and validation evidence for design reviews for customer projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in electric machine design (e.g., PMM, BLDC, BLAC, RFM, AFM).
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, machine topology selection, magnetic materials, thermal management, and structural considerations.
- Proficiency with MotorCAD, ANSYS Maxwell.
- Demonstrated experience in DFMEA, failure analysis, technical risk management, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Hands-on mindset with the ability to work directly with prototype hardware and manufacturing teams.
- Ability to interpret technical requirements and create coherent machine-level design solutions.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork capabilities.
Desirable
- Experience within aerospace, defence, automotive electrification, or high-reliability industries.
- Proficiency with mechanical FEA, and preferably Structural, Thermal and CFD tools.
- Knowledge of NVH, thermal systems, or advanced materials.
- Familiarity with design-for-manufacture and production processes.
- Background in scripting languages and AI.
