This is a full-time role for a UK/EMEA Field Service Engineer at Sterling Ultra Precision. The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for ultra-precision lathes in the UK and Europe. The Service Engineer is a key member of an international service team. The individual serves as a liaison between the customer and company for technical service issues.

General duties include:

  • Ophthalmic lathe installation and training
  • Troubleshooting of electromechanical, electronic and software problems both at the customer site and remotely via TeamViewer, telephone and email
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under scrutiny of the customer’s demanding production schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to all customers
  • Provide professional responses in a timely manner to all customers
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment (Remotely or onsite)
  • Manage time and priorities so that tasks are completed on or ahead of schedule
  • Develop outstanding relationships with Company's customers to enhance future business opportunities
  • Ensure that customers are aware of Company's new products and feedback sales opportunities
  • Travel across the UK and Europe to assist customers (50% Travel)
  • Provide documentation to aid customers fault finding
  • Conduct machine operation and maintenance training at customer's locations
  • Perform evaluation of machine capabilities and performance
  • Provide excellent technical service to customers via telephone (TeamViewer) and email
  • Provide service documents, instructions, photos, drawings, etc. to aid customers in troubleshooting
  • Provide timely and detailed customer service reports

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient in troubleshooting electromechanical, electronic and software machine operation issues
  • Possess logical reasoning and deductive problem-solving abilities
  • Good working knowledge of electromechanical systems including power electronics and precision motion control mechanics
  • Familiarity with industrial hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Proficient understanding of electronic schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Logical and structured in approach to task prioritization and time management
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • High degree of self-motivation
  • Strong organization skills
  • Must be able to work and troubleshoot independently with minimum supervision
  • Experience in preventive maintenance
  • Electrical fault finding
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of analytical instrumentation
  • Tactfully handle difficult situations and maintain composure under pressure
