We are seeking experienced systems engineers and senior managers to develop robust hazard protection systems and manage integrated functional design of power stations. The role requires a deep understanding of nuclear industry safety, systems engineering, and cross‑disciplinary coordination.
Responsibilities- Develop solutions to protect safety‑categorised equipment from internal and external hazards (fire, blast, seismic, flooding, etc.).
- Author hazard protection measure requirements, design descriptions, and substantiation reports.
- Participate in technical reviews, gated reviews and provide inputs to main project technical review gates.
- Lead integrated functional design of the power station, ensuring all functional, performance and operational requirements are met.
- Coordinate cross‑functional design issues across reactor, turbine and process islands.
- Ensure Defence‑In‑Depth across operating conditions and plant configurations.
- Develop operating philosophy, control logic and identify operational limits and conditions.
- Build and manage an engineering delivery team (agile methodology), provide coaching and continuous improvement.
- Represent SMR in interactions with external stakeholders and support licensing processes.
- Develop robust work plans to deliver on time, within cost and quality objectives.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics (mechanical, electrical, process or related).
- Strong knowledge of internal/external hazard safety cases and mitigation design.
- Experience in nuclear industry domain, civil nuclear plant design and behaviour.
- Systems engineering fundamentals: requirements capture, compliance demonstration, optioneering.
- Familiarity with UK/EU legislative and safety, security, safeguarding regulations (ALARP, BAT).
- Experience managing multi‑disciplinary engineering teams and cross‑island integration.
- Chartered Engineer or working towards chartered status, with technical leadership experience.
- Experience in complex industrial plant design (power generation or nuclear).
- Strong communication skills, ability to influence and obtain buy‑in from various stakeholders.
- Delegated signing/approval authority from Head of Power Station Integration for delivery scope aligned with C3.2.1‑5.
