Role Description
The Materials Engineer reports to the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Manager. The role is responsible for the selection, characterisation, testing and qualification of materials used in our technology to ensure they meet mechanical, thermal, and life‑cycle requirements. The supply chain engineer covers all materials used to manufacture components within Roto Dynamic Heater (RDH) and Roto Dynamic Reactor (RDR) turbomachinery products, ranging from austenitic steels to aerospace grade nickel alloys, with brazing and coatings applied as needed.
- Justify material selections during product design.
- Support manufacturing‑method development and validation activities.
- Collaborate with design teams to feed materials data into design studies ensuring components meet intended life.
- Work with suppliers to develop and optimise manufacturing techniques (e.g., heat treatment, surface coatings) to achieve required supply condition.
- Validate suppliers’ manufacturing methods and analyse any material defects or anomalies.
- Help resolve manufacturing anomalies and document findings in technical reports and specifications.
- Maintain strong working relationships with cross‑functional teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Materials Engineering or suitable industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years experience in Materials Engineering (or a relevant discipline) in a relevant industry.
- Strong technical knowledge, including experience with turbomachinery.
- Ability to collaborate with cross‑functional teams to drive improvements and resolve manufacturing & product issues.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with a proven ability to analyse complex issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
- Flexibility to work on a variety of tasks, including those outside the natural lane of a Materials Engineer.
