We are looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer to lead the electronics development for a key programme in Leonardo's Advanced Targeting Sector. Advanced Targeting is an area with significant growth opportunities due to a strong pipeline of work, and this position primarily focuses on a vacancy on the team developing a cutting-edge laser product. You will be working within a multi-disciplined delivery team with responsibility across the full Engineering Lifecycle, from requirements capture to final delivery. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a highly skilled team at a time of significant growth.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of around ten electronics engineers developing the laser beam-director electronic hardware.
- Develop new electronics through the full design lifecycle; from requirements analysis, concept development through design, build and test; to system integration; and finally to acceptance test and delivery to the customer.
- Work closely with Software, Firmware, Mechanical, Systems and Safety engineering leads to solve integration problems on test systems.
- Collaborate with engineers from partner organisations within the laser consortium and user community.
- Take ownership of all electronics work packages, planning the team's work, supervising engineers in completion of tasks, and reporting to all stakeholders.
- Create high quality and robust electronics designs; fully document and record work products; keep them under configuration management and provide plans and reports on progress.
- Ensure electronics development progresses in accordance with applicable Leonardo processes and procedures.
- Provide support to ongoing off-site system trials, as required.
What We Need From You
- Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering.
- Expert-level proficiency in at least one aspect of electronics design, for example: analogue, mixed-signal, digital or power electronics.
- Extensive experience of team leadership and work package management.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to coach less experienced members of the team.
- Capable of adapting to different contexts and situations.
- Proven ability to develop electronics within a development process framework.
- Able to demonstrate experience in most areas of the design lifecycle from requirements definition through to implementation, integration test and delivery.
- Desirable additional experience: Electro-Optics, Lasers, Camera Imaging Systems, Servo Control Systems, Power Electronics, Safety Involved Hardware.
- Extensive experience developing electronics system architectures.
- Experience with Siemens Xpedition, or similar ECAD toolsets.
- Strong understanding of the principles of design for EMC.
- Well-rounded engineering experience in all phases of the Product Life Cycle across several projects.
- Experience of customer/supplier relations and working within multi-discipline project teams.
