The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Manager of Refrigeration & Energy to lead the performance, reliability, and sustainability of refrigeration systems across our European operations. This is a critical role that blends technical expertise with strategic thinking - ensuring our systems are efficient, compliant, and aligned with Americold’s ambitious energy and sustainability goals.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Develop and lead robust preventive maintenance programs for industrial refrigeration systems, ensuring operational safety, reliability, and compliance across all sites.
  • Identify and implement innovative energy efficiency projects, reducing environmental impact while improving cost-effectiveness.
  • Partner with facility teams and external contractors to coordinate planned maintenance and minimise operational disruptions.
  • Apply technical best practices and leverage new technologies to continuously improve refrigeration system performance.
  • Serve as a technical expert in diagnosing complex refrigeration issues, driving root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationships to ensure service quality, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Contribute to capital planning by advising on refrigeration and energy requirements for facility expansions or upgrades.
  • Analyse energy consumption data across facilities, producing reports and recommendations to guide sustainability and performance improvements.
  • Ensure full compliance with European and local refrigeration and energy regulations, maintaining Americold’s reputation for operational excellence.
  • Champion a culture of safety, innovation, and environmental responsibility across all touchpoints of refrigeration and energy operations.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 8–10 years of hands-on experience managing large-scale industrial refrigeration systems, preferably in cold storage or logistics environments.
  • In-depth understanding of ammonia-based refrigeration systems and the related safety and compliance protocols.
  • Track record of leading successful energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability programs in a multi-site or regional context.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret technical and energy performance data to drive business insights and improvements.
  • Strong experience managing maintenance or energy operations across geographically dispersed facilities.
