Goal

The General Manager Transport – Europe will play a pivotal role in the strategic oversight and management of transportation operations across the region. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient movement of goods while driving commercial growth and operational excellence. A key element of the position is defining and developing a scalable transport roadmap that supports both 3PL and asset-based models. The General Manager will oversee systems, governance, and partner engagement to deliver performance across the European transport network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement a strategic transport roadmap that supports scalable growth and long-term commercial objectives.
  • Lead the development of a hybrid transport network, combining 3PL and asset-owned models across European markets.
  • Own the full transport P&L, managing cost efficiency, service performance, and financial forecasting.
  • Ensure full compliance with European transport regulations, with emphasis on chain of responsibility and safety leadership.
  • Develop and maintain a robust internal governance framework to manage legal risk and operational standards.
  • Oversee daily transport operations, including dispatch, routing, and customer service alignment.
  • Optimize capacity planning and resource allocation to meet seasonal and market-driven volume fluctuations.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key carriers, 3PLs, and transport service providers.
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and optimization of Transport Management Systems (TMS).
  • Lead the ongoing development and strategic review of TMS platforms, including implementation of new or enhanced solutions to support operational excellence.
  • Ensure strong system discipline, data integrity, and full visibility of transport performance and exceptions.
  • Develop and lead a consistent transport reporting and KPI framework across the European region.
  • Provide senior-level performance analysis and insights, enabling strategic decision-making and corrective actions.
  • Support business development by designing customer-centric transport solutions and pricing models.
  • Lead contract negotiations, RFP processes, and commercial assessments for new and existing transport partnerships.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders in operations, commercial, IT, and finance to ensure alignment.
  • Build and lead a high-performing regional transport team, promoting a culture of compliance, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in transport leadership roles, including regional or multi-country scope.
  • Proven success in both 3PL environments and asset-based fleet operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic transport plans across large, complex networks.
  • Deep understanding of European transport laws and chain of responsibility principles.
  • Expertise in transport systems, especially TMS platforms; ability to evaluate, implement, and optimize technology.
  • Strong commercial mindset with a track record of managing transport P&Ls and supporting commercial growth.
  • Analytical thinker with experience in building reporting frameworks, dashboards, and performance reviews.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field required; MBA preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to travel across Europe (up to 30%) as needed.
