A full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position in Environmental Engineering is available at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB. The role focuses on drinking water quality and treatment, emerging contaminants, nature‑based solutions, the water‑environment‑health nexus, risk assessment, climate resilience, artificial intelligence for smart water systems, and resilient drinking water infrastructure. The successful candidate will establish a multidisciplinary research program that integrates drinking water quality with broader watershed, urban water, and climate resilience challenges, and will develop and teach courses in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering.
This appointment is part of a cluster of five faculty positions covering Geotechnical, Geoenvironmental, Water Resources, and Mining Engineering, designed to foster cross‑disciplinary collaboration, joint student supervision, and integrated research initiatives across infrastructure resilience, sustainability, and responsible resource development.
Responsibilities
- Teaching (40 %): Participation in teaching programs, including classroom instruction, supervision of students conducting research, and personal interactions and advising with students. Teaching assignments are decided in discussion with the Department Chair.
- Research (40 %): Active participation in research, including preparation and performance of creative works, dissemination of results, and pursuit of external research funding from granting agencies.
- Service (20 %): Engagement in university service, departmental and faculty governance, and dissemination of knowledge to the general public.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date. They must demonstrate an established record or exceptional potential for excellence in research and education, a strong commitment to high‑quality teaching and mentoring at undergraduate and graduate levels, and the ability or potential to develop and sustain an externally funded research programme. Evidence of scholarly achievement appropriate to the candidate’s career stage is required.
