An established employee‑owned engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Bridges Engineer to support a growing workload across Scotland and the wider UK.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and growing bridges team with a strong pipeline of rail infrastructure work, alongside projects within highways, bridge refurbishment, infrastructure, energy and renewables.
The successful candidate will work across both Glasgow and Edinburgh teams, supporting multidisciplinary project delivery and contributing to technically challenging projects.
The Role
The role will involve leading and delivering bridge and civil structure projects from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
This is a technically focused position suited to someone who enjoys hands‑on design work, project leadership and mentoring junior engineers.
Projects are primarily focused on rail bridge structures and refurbishment works, although candidates from highways, infrastructure, major bridge or energy backgrounds will also be considered.
Responsibilities
- Development of conceptual and detailed bridge designs
- Structural analysis and design using industry‑standard software
- Reviewing calculations, drawings and technical outputs
- Leading technical delivery on projects
- Undertaking bridge inspections and site visits
- Coordinating multidisciplinary project teams
- Managing client and stakeholder relationships
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers
- Assisting with fee proposals and project planning
- Managing small to medium‑sized projects
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStruct E) preferred
- Candidates approaching chartership will also be considered
- Strong technical design background within bridges or civil structures
- Experience working on bridge refurbishment, renewals or infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of steel, concrete, masonry or timber structures
- Experience managing projects and coordinating teams
- Strong communication and client‑facing skills
- Full UK driving licence
