We are seeking an experienced Senior Human Factors Engineer to join a high-profile defence engineering programme based onsite in Christchurch.

Contract Details

  • Duration: 6 Month Contract
  • Location: Christchurch (Onsite)
  • Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance required
  • Rate: £500 - £600 per day
  • IR35 Status: Inside IR35

The Role

As a Senior Human Factors Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering Human Factors Integration support across complex engineering and safety-critical programmes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing Human Factors Integration support across product and process design
  • Tailoring and estimating Human Factors activities
  • Capturing and managing requirements, risks, and opportunities
  • Delivering design guidance, testing, evaluation, and acceptance support
  • Planning and conducting quantitative and qualitative Human Factors assessments including:
    • Human error analysis
    • Workload assessment
    • Situation awareness
    • Ergonomic analysis
    • Usability evaluation
  • Advising on the design and usability of hardware and software systems
  • Identifying and implementing modern Human Factors best practices and methodologies
  • Managing the scope and execution of Human Factors activities throughout the project lifecycle

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified (Bachelor's or Master's) in:
    • Human Factors
    • Ergonomics
    • Psychology
    • Engineering
    • or equivalent relevant discipline
  • Registered member of the Chartered Institute of Human Factors (or Technical Member working towards registration within 12 months)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience applying Human Factors methods within defence or other safety-critical industries
  • Strong experience conducting Human Factors assessments and usability activities

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering teams on complex systems integration programmes
  • Familiarity with Defence Human Factors standards such as:
    • Def Stan 00-251
    • MIL-STD-1472
  • Understanding of engineering lifecycle and development processes
  • Broad knowledge of Human Factors methodologies supporting safety assessments
