As we continue to grow, we're looking for an experienced Group Engineering Manager to join our Group Operations team and play a pivotal role in supporting land acquisition, development delivery, and engineering excellence across the business. This is a highly influential position that combines strategic oversight, technical expertise, and stakeholder management.
You will work closely with Regional teams and senior leadership, providing engineering guidance that helps drive informed decisions, manage risk, and deliver commercially successful developments. The Opportunity
As Group Engineering Manager, you'll lead on key engineering aspects of the Group Technical function, ensuring robust technical solutions support our development pipeline and business objectives. You will be a trusted advisor to the Group Operations Director and Regional teams, providing expert input on land opportunities, engineering challenges, temporary works compliance, and technical risk management. What You'll Be Doing
- Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence
- Lead and manage the engineering aspects of the Group Technical function
- Oversee and continuously improve the company's Temporary Works procedures, ensuring full legal compliance
- Co-ordinate with Regional teams to ensure adherence to Temporary Works processes and company standards
- Provide technical assessments, engineering advice, and practical solutions to support land acquisition and development activities
- Identify risks and opportunities, delivering clear recommendations to support informed decision-making
- Supporting Land & Development Opportunities
- Assist with the appraisal and evaluation of development opportunities
- Provide engineering insight to support regional land bids and investment decisions
- Review technical constraints, infrastructure requirements, and site viability considerations
- Support planning applications and approvals, ensuring alignment with Group policies and delivery objectives
- Consultant & Stakeholder Management
- Manage external engineering and technical consultants
- Ensure technical information is delivered accurately, on time, and within budget
- Build strong relationships with Local Authorities, Statutory Bodies, specialist suppliers, contractors, and consultants
- Support Regional teams with negotiations and technical discussions to keep projects moving forward
- Project & Programme Management
- Prepare and manage project programmes, including critical path monitoring and reporting
- Provide regular updates, analysis, and recommendations to senior stakeholders
- Support procurement activities by engaging with technical specialists and contractors during project development
- Ensure development programmes remain aligned with business targets, budgets, and strategic priorities
What We're Looking For
We're seeking an experienced engineering professional who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and exceptional stakeholder management skills. You will ideally have:
- A relevant engineering qualification and/or extensive engineering and technical development experience
- Strong understanding of the residential development process from land acquisition through to delivery
- Experience working within housebuilding, construction, development, engineering consultancy, or a related environment
- Excellent knowledge of Temporary Works legislation and compliance requirements
- Strong understanding of planning, development procurement, and associated legal frameworks
- Experience managing consultants and multidisciplinary project teams
- Proven ability to assess technical risk and provide commercially viable solutions
- Experience creating and managing programmes, including critical path planning
- Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills
- Strong organisational and project management capabilities
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with outstanding attention to detail
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience in a Project Manager, Engineering Manager, Technical Manager, or Development Engineering role
- AutoCAD proficiency
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations, Health & Safety, and Environmental legislation
- Experience operating across multiple regions or projects simultaneously
