An opportunity for an experienced Controls & Integration Engineer to design, develop, integrate, commission and support end-to-end warehouse automation solutions. This role requires expertise beyond PLC programming, encompassing full system integration with Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
Role Location: Remote with visits to Northampton office
Role Summary
- Full lifecycle ownership of automation projects, from software development through to post-implementation support.
- Design and integration of control systems with WCS and WMS platforms.
- Delivery of innovative warehouse and pallet automation solutions.
- Extensive UK travel to support commissioning, optimisation and customer delivery activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and modify PLC and control software.
- Develop and implement integrations between PLC, WCS and WMS platforms.
- Configure and maintain industrial communication networks and interfaces.
- Lead commissioning, fault‑finding, debugging and optimisation activities on live customer sites.
- Execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and system validation activities.
- Support system performance through implementation and operational handover.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across controls, software, network and system logic layers.
- Collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders throughout project delivery.
Technical Requirements
- Strong PLC programming experience.
- Experience developing and commissioning WCS/WMS integrations.
- Understanding of database interaction, APIs and middleware technologies.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
- Experience within warehouse automation, intralogistics or material handling environments.
- Proven commissioning and troubleshooting experience in live operational settings.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with alternative PLC platforms.
- SCADA and HMI development experience.
- Exposure to SQL, REST APIs or higher‑level software integration.
- Experience with automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), shuttle systems or pallet automation technologies.
- Additional European language skills would be advantageous.
