An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join a busy Transportation team delivering a variety of traffic engineering projects across a London Borough. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in highways and traffic engineering who can independently manage projects, supervise junior staff, and ensure schemes are delivered safely, efficiently and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce financial estimates, project statistics and payment claims
  • Monitor project progress, expenditure and programme delivery
  • Prepare contract documentation including specifications, Bills of Quantities and tender documents
  • Design and deliver traffic engineering schemes and prepare technical drawings
  • Interpret surveys, reports and consultation responses
  • Assess contractor quotations and provide technical recommendations
  • Supervise contractors, undertake site inspections and monitor quality standards
  • Prepare technical reports and present engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure projects comply with statutory requirements, budgets and quality standards
  • Support and mentor junior engineers where required

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working within a Local Authority, Council or Housing Association (ESSENTIAL)
  • Proven experience delivering traffic engineering or highways projects
  • Experience preparing technical specifications, drawings and contract documentation
  • Strong understanding of highways legislation, engineering standards and contract management
  • Experience managing project budgets, programmes and contractor performance
  • Excellent report writing and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work independently whilst managing multiple projects
