A leading engineering and design business within the rail sector is seeking an experienced Head of Project Engineering to lead the technical delivery of complex engineering projects from its Derby-based office. Role
As Head of Project Engineering, you will oversee the successful technical delivery of projects, ensuring engineering quality, efficiency, and compliance throughout the full project lifecycle. Working closely with senior leadership and cross‐functional teams, you will help shape engineering processes, improve best practices, and support the continued growth of the engineering function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Project Engineering team
- Manage engineering resources to support successful project delivery
- Drive engineering standards, technical compliance, and best practices
- Oversee engineering outputs including concepts, designs, reports, and procedures
- Support project delivery from concept through to implementation
- Ensure compliance with rail industry regulations, safety, and quality standards

Requirements
- Strong understanding of the UK rail industry and associated standards/regulations
- Relevant engineering or design qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status preferred
- Proven leadership experience within an engineering environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong problem‐solving and organisational abilities
- Full UK driving licence
