On behalf of Arup, we are looking for an Environmental Consultant – Waste Management for a 6‑month contract based in London.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and deliver resource and waste management strategies for major developments across London, the UK, and globally.
  • Prepare waste‑related Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Construction Waste Management Plans, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards, while identifying opportunities to maximise resource efficiency and minimise waste.
  • Undertake and oversee technical work, providing guidance and quality assurance across project deliverables.
  • Manage specialist and multi‑disciplinary project teams to ensure successful and timely project delivery.
  • Maintain accountability for project quality and budget control, ensuring outputs meet both client and regulatory expectations.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and managing communications throughout project lifecycles.
  • Lead proposal development from inception through to completion, including coordinating inputs and preparing high‑quality submissions.

The skills you’ll need:

  • Honours and master’s degree in a relevant subject such as environmental/civil engineering, chemical engineering, environmental sciences or similar.
  • Good knowledge of UK and EU resources and waste policy and legislation, including circular economy principles.
  • Strong technical and financial knowledge and experience of waste storage, collection, transport and treatment technologies (WTS, MRF, MBT, IVC, AD, WtE, pyrolysis and gasification etc).
  • Experience in developing resource and waste management strategies for local authorities and/or new development projects, including knowledge of life‑cycle assessment tools (e.g. WRATE).
  • Good experience of waste auditing and preparation of environmental impact assessment of major development schemes.
