Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, were enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our
Transmission & Renewables team.
We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400k V.
Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
We're looking for a
Lead Civil Substation Designer to join our Substations Design team. You must have experience in CDAE for National Grid projects.
You'll and play a key role in shaping civil design solutions for substation projects from feasibility to commissioning.
You'll collaborate with project teams, designers, and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient execution, providing constructability advice and overseeing temporary works designs.
This is a hybrid role and will include travel to our Birmingham office when required.
- Lead the civil design and delivery of substation projects from feasibility through to commissioning.
- Develop civil engineering solutions including foundations, drainage, GIS buildings, and steel structures.
- Collaborate with project teams, designers, clients, and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
- Provide constructability input and technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Oversee and review temporary works designs to ensure compliance and safety.
- Support bid development, tender submissions, and innovation initiatives alongside the Design Manager and Design Lead.
- Produce and review high-quality engineering reports, calculations, specifications, and drawings.
- Ensure designs comply with client requirements, BS standards, Eurocodes, and ENA specifications.
- Act as a Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE), providing design assurance and technical governance.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, contributing to their professional development.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and help enhance engineering processes and standards.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
- What youll bring
- Previous experience acting as Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) or Equivalent Role.
- Professional experience in design and analysis software using STAAD Pro, Tekla Tedds, Autodesk Revit & Auto CAD & Civil 3D, and Tekla Structural Designer
- Ability to challenge information presented and be prepared for the versatile nature of Civil Substation Design.
- Relevant Electricity Transmission & Distribution Industry Experience.
- Experience in earthworks modelling and creating 3D models of a site to calculate cut and fill volumes and prepare for construction
