YOUR ROLE

Our Ground & Rail team have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Unit Director to lead and evolve dedicated Transport Operations across the UK. This is a high-impact leadership role with full accountability for operational performance, commercial growth, and financial results across a complex, multi-site transport network. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the business unit, driving sustainable growth through strong customer partnerships, empowering high-performing teams, and ensuring excellence in operational delivery while navigating an evolving and fast-paced logistics landscape.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

  • Provide clear, visible leadership across dedicated transport operations setting and delivering compelling strategic vision aligned to wider business objectives.
  • Translate strategy into executable operational plans, balancing short-term performance with long-term growth.
  • Act as a Senior Leader within the G&R leadership community, contributing to cross-functional initiatives and projects.
  • Own commercial performance with a focus on growth, identifying business opportunities to expand existing contracts and develop new revenue streams.
  • Build strong trusted relationships with customers, ensuring teams deliver against contractual commitments and lead in negotiations on contract renewals, extensions and variations.
  • Hold full accountability for business unit P&L including budget setting, forecasting, cost control and profitability.
  • Drive financial rigor across operations and in collaboration with finance to ensure a clear understanding of cost drivers, productivity and return on investment.
  • Build, develop and empower a strong senior management team, fostering accountability, operational excellence, engagement and succession.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

To be successful in your application you will be a commercially astute, people-focused leader with a strong track record of leading Transport Operations ideally within a 3PL or multi-site level. To be considered you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience of leading large-scale or multi-site Transport Operations with full P&L responsibility.
  • Strong strategic capability, with the ability to balance operational detail and big-picture thinking.
  • Demonstrable success in commercial growth, contract management and customer relationship leadership.
  • Experience of leading complex change management within an operational environment.
  • Strong leadership style that empowers teams, builds trust and drives accountability.
  • Strong financial acumen, with confidence in managing budgets, forecasts and performance metrics.
