Join us as an Underwriting Support to take your career to the next level with a global market leader. As a Specialist in our Underwriting Operations Team Marine Cargo, you will be responsible for providing efficient and high-quality underwriting support to the UK Underwriting Teams. You will support the end-to-end underwriting process through regular liaison with other functions to ensure the highest quality of service is delivered to our brokers and clients. This is a fantastic role for someone with good general insurance knowledge who wants to progress their career in underwriting operations. You will be given comprehensive training and the opportunity to complete insurance qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Lloyd's of London insurance market "box".
  • Manage a portfolio of accounts and ensure all new business and renewal accounts are processed efficiently and accurately.
  • Engage proactively with Underwriting to ensure new and renewed accounts have an efficient and smooth hand‑over, ensuring information received is understood and complete for policy instructions on systems and to the network.
  • Liaise with Underwriters to ensure correct interpretation of data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain documentation and files, ensuring all documentation is retained centrally.
  • Accountable for RI premium, RI commission and tax bookings in processing systems.
  • Liaise with the Credit Control team – answering queries, tracking, and monitoring premium using core underwriting systems.
  • Manage requests from clients and brokers and refer to Underwriting as required.
  • Participate in client/broker meetings as requested by Underwriting.
  • Interact regularly with off‑shore team – leading huddles, auditing work, quality control.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop expert level knowledge of systems and processes and keep abreast of new guidelines.
  • Act as reference point for team members on questions or uncertainties.
  • Support project work to ensure existing processes meet requirements.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum A-level standard of education or equivalent business experience.
  • General insurance knowledge.
  • Knowledge of underwriting processes: submission/quotes, risk specifics, basic pricing principles, reinsurance concepts (FAC RI, Captive, Treaties, etc.), domestic market specifics and customs.
  • Knowledge of premium allocation principles, European cross‑border tax calculation & processing specifics, and insurance accounting principles.
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative, with ability to build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills – experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and PowerBI would be advantageous.
