About the role - What you need to know
One of the key supportive elements is the market leading policy agreement and delivery process. Lex-London is the market lead in several of the lines of business written and Insureds are Fortune 1000 type corporations with household names. The policy wordings involved cover the spectrum of London market products from full-blown manuscript to MRC’s. The role will support all lines underwritten.
The individual will have an insight into normal market contract terms and conditions, a knowledge of the utilisation of them in the market and their own opinion of their merits. The role comes with an expectation of a high degree of self-motivation and individual responsibility for quality and timeliness of product delivery.
An organised and refined process already exists which serves the business. Candidates would be expected generally to adhere to this but with a view to considering improvement or modification.
The role involves a close working relationship with the team of Casualty and Property underwriters supporting their exacting requirements.
The role involves active interaction with London market top-tier brokers face-to-face, email etc to discuss wording reviews, language intent, implement policy wording guidelines/best practices and to ensure manuscript policy checklist/template requirements are adhered to.
The role involves strong interaction, drafting manuscript/bespoke Endorsements to address client-specific exposures and align with underwriting intent with UK and US legal partners to ensure compliance with regulations in both jurisdictions and/or for problem resolution.
The role is within an existing team of mutually supportive specialist policy technicians.
How you'll make an impact
- Drive coverage certainty by implementing established policy wording guidelines and advise underwriters on best practices.
- Provide technical guidance to underwriters on policy/endorsement language.
- Review competitor forms and make recommendations to the Underwriters on acceptability of those forms and required endorsements.
- Draft manuscript endorsements to AIG’s standard policy forms and create bespoke endorsements for third party policy forms to address client-specific exposures and align with underwriting intent.
- Work with Legal in drafting endorsements, including obtaining approvals and adhering to Company/Compliance protocols.
- Ensure policy wording guidelines, best practices and preferred Endorsement language are adhered to/implemented, ensure Endorsement libraries, Quote/Binder and Policy Templates are kept up to date.
- Maintain and update manuscript policy checklists to ensure that policy reviews match AIG’s underwriting intent.
- Support the development and implementation of the Global Policy Forms Library and Digital Workflow as required.
What you'll need to succeed
- Written and Oral Communication – proven experience of policy language analysis and drafting endorsements experience along with an understanding and insight into the range of products written, preferably in a US risk context but at least for large global commercial clients; ability to break down difficult concepts in order to provide clear and succinct explanations to underwriters and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge – Experience with US Casualty and Property markets and policy forms; experience and knowledge of admitted, non-admitted and surplus lines markets a plus.
- Flexibility – Proficiency in both working independently and collaborating with others in a team environment across multiple disciplines; support the other team members across Casualty and Property.
- Prioritizing and Time Management – Able to manage time effectively, capable of prioritising projects and responding promptly in an appropriate manner.
- Client Service – Ability to anticipate client (internal and external) needs and act proactively.
- Familiarity with London Market Contracts, Slips, Wordings, Endorsements.
- Ability to evaluate and draft new and renewal standard and non-standard policies of all degrees of complexity plus endorsements to advise underwriters within approval parameters and liaising with Legal where outside of approved change parameters.
