As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the Network & Acquirer Solutions (NAS) team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to support every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. The American Express Network enables over $1.6 trillion in annual spend, serving our Issuers and Acquirers in more than 170 markets worldwide. We are driving a strategic, multi-year Enterprise Payments program to bring all payments together into a center of excellence to drive operational excellence for payment execution, enable innovative payment products, services, and capabilities to be built effectively and efficiently, support our BU strategies more closely, and deliver on our customers’ evolving payment needs.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The role of Senior Associate, Enterprise Payments Product Development is an exciting opportunity for a talented product manager to drive modernization and development of new payment capabilities. The incumbent will be a central member of the Enterprise Payments COE that is tasked with supporting the build of the modern foundational bill payment capabilities for the Enterprise Payments Center of Excellence (COE). The incumbent will be a work within a large scale, enterprise-wide program established to accelerate the development of our enterprise payment services and support the redesign the operating model surrounding it to drive excellence in payment execution. Reporting to a Product Manager, Product Development, this role will help to build the next generation of bill payment capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Product Manager in delivering on the roadmap for the platform.
- Work closely with stakeholders, e.g., Product Management, Engineering, Operations, business owners, market teams, etc. gathering requirements
- Participate in the discovery and envisioning of new payment flows and 3rd party integration capabilities that power key customer journeys across American Express.
- Prioritize and sequence the delivery of payment capabilities within scrums and participate in cross team/train delivery planning.
- Participate in agile team ceremonies, daily standup, demos and retrospectives. Including the creation of features, business flows and acceptance criteria:
- Break down features into user stories. Ensure work focuses on those with maximum value.
- Monitor and assess delivery and performance metrics to identify opportunities to improve delivery predictability, time to market, delivery of iterative value to the business or to make enhancements.
- Foster a collaborative culture within the organization focused on delivery excellence and doing it the right way.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Relevant experience: Experience in Product Development, Agile practices, and scaled product delivery within a cross-functional team environment. Exposure to capability or feature delivery in the payments space is a strong advantage.
- Payments knowledge: Interest in payments and understanding of technologies shaping innovation in the payments ecosystem. Familiarity with Bill Pay capabilities and/or A2A money movement (ACH, wires, RTP, etc.) is beneficial.
- Passion for results: Eagerness to contribute to execution and support delivery outcomes in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
- Delivery support: Experience contributing to agile product development processes and supporting adoption of new ways of working under guidance from product or delivery leads.
- Product support experience: Ability to assist in managing parts of a product lifecycle, contributing to large initiatives or specific components of transformational projects.
- Analytical mindset: Strong problem-solving abilities and a curious mindset. Able to work with data and insights to support decision-making and business outcomes.
- Collaborative mindset: Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners and contribute to team success through proactive communication and coordination.
- Strong communicator: Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create presentations, support product documentation, and engage stakeholders at various levels.
