Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) brings together American Express' merchant-and network related businesses to enable a sharp focus on using the power of our network to provide unique value to all our mutual customers. The organization manages the relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express and runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally.
The GMNS Global Strategy and Operations (GSOP) Governance team is looking for a Compliance Manager - Regulatory Change Management (RCM) focused on ensuring compliance governance and oversight is embedded in the day-to-day operations of our organization. It will involve extensive collaboration with multiple partners across numerous business units, functional areas, and geographies.
The Manager GSOP RCM will:
- Execute on the RCM Governance and Oversight framework, offering support and advice to first-line operational teams regarding execution plans for operational changes linked to new or updated legal and regulatory mandates that affect the international GMNS business, with a particular focus on Europe and EMEA.
- Provide oversight for complex, multi-market RCM projects including facilitation of workstream deliverables, senior management status reporting, and management/mitigation of project risks.
- Drive the ongoing enhancement of the GSOP RCM governance framework to optimize oversight processes, tools, templates, and training for first-line teams, thereby strengthening risk management and supporting effective decision-making within the business unit.
- Provide quality assurance activities in the creation and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and controls related to regulatory change projects, ensuring that operational documents are complete and accurate.
- Track RCM applicable metrics, KRI limits and risk appetite for GMNS EMEA to ensure operational and regulatory risks are managed within agreed thresholds and leverage these metrics to help detect concerning rises in emerging problems, then escalate and flag concerns accordingly.
- Present details of specific regulatory initiatives and risks at appropriate control forums for GMNS, interfacing with org-wide governance processes and committees (e.g., Operational Risk Management Committee) and share insights and lessons learned across appropriate forums.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experienced in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function).
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities.
- Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards.
- Experience in providing governance, oversight and/or quality assurance for operational or risk management processes.
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyse data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in at least one of the following: Translating operational risk strategy and appetite into execution guidelines.
- Oversee the implementation of the operational risk governance frameworks.
- Communicating and ensuring understanding and adherence to operational risk procedures and standards.
- Experience in financial services industry.
Note: Primarily EMEA Market focused but may be required to support initiatives in other regions, flexibility is required. Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the UK is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
