Global Merchant & Network Services focuses on the businesses that accept our cards. We bring together the businesses that manage and evolve the company’s relationships with millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express, as well as the team that runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally.
Network & Acquirer Solutions (NAS) drives the development of new payment services and products for the American Express Global Network Issuers, Acquirers and Merchants and is responsible for the operation of the payment network, safely and securely processing more than $1.6 trillion in transaction volume globally each year.
The Network Product & Enablement team is a critical part of the NAS organization. Our remit spans the maintenance of existing functionality, the development of new products and services, operating the network and managing the end-to-end partner lifecycle. Our solutions deliver value to American Express’ Card Members, acquirers and partners across the globe, facilitating secure and seamless transactions between issuers, acquirers and merchants.
The Global ATM team within Network Product & Enablement drives strategic direction, signs new partnerships, develops capabilities and manages relationships with 200+ external ATM partnerships.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of Global ATM Business Development & Strategy, the Senior Manager – ATM Strategic Relationship Management will develop and execute strategies to meet company needs through:
- Setting country-level vision to meet stakeholder needs based on customer experience, future cash needs and evolving ATM landscapes.
- Renegotiating existing contracts to modernise our contract base & lower fees for debit while introducing new Guardian-driven compliance requirements.
- Conducting long-term strategic planning for cash access in response to debit and the changing demands for cash in different geographies.
Key Responsibilities
- Stakeholder engagement to identify and clarify needs – internal and external including local issuers and GNS partners.
- Own country-level strategies – build a detailed understanding of the external ATM marketplace, industry players & competitor activity, and propose solutions.
- Lead negotiations with banks or national ATM networks to achieve access that best suits card-member and issuer needs across coverage, cost & capabilities.
- Sign complex contracts ensuring all ATM specifications and back-office processes can be followed.
- Ensure Guardian-driven compliance requirements are included and enforced in all new and renegotiated agreements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Outstanding relationship and collaboration skills – ability to manage stakeholders internally and externally.
- Experience influencing challenging external partners during engagements.
- Structured negotiation skills; financial acumen to construct mutually beneficial proposals, often reacting to partner demands during live negotiations.
- Contract signing experience – exposure to managing contract negotiations for both business and legal terms.
- Strong analytical skills, business acumen and ability to think strategically and logically, and to structure & process information into meaningful and actionable recommendations.
- Confident verbal communication and ability to create succinct and compelling presentations to deliver a message effectively.
- Diplomatic ability to influence others at all levels of the business and externally.
